I am a runner??

So if you are my friend on fb, you know that each day I have been doing dailyhiit workouts through bodyrock TV. I love these workouts as they are quick, but intense, and really get me sweating (even if it is just for 12-20 mins). Even though I am doing these workouts, I feel that I need to reintroduce some cardio back in to my routine. Because my membership at Goodlife has expired (and no, I am not going to renew as there are so many things you can do at home for free), I have decided to incorporate some running in to my routine. Because I have not run in such a long time, I am going to start slow, I am thinking 20-30 mins every other day. I will also be running in intervals since I am just getting started. So walk for 2 mins, run for 2 mins, and repeat. All of my research has shown that working out in intervals is the best anways, plus, you gotta start somewhere right?

So, to get me ready for this endeavour, I went out last night and bought some new running shoes! I have some Nike runners already, but I only use them for inside workouts (like my dailyhiit workouts) and I dont want to ruin them by running with them outside, especially in this snowy weather. So I bought some new runners that I am going to start wearing outside once the snow melts, and for now I am going to run outside with my New Balance shoes that I hate and want to get rid of. I figure I might as well use them to run outside in these weather conditions and then throw them out in the spring time. I also bought these grippy things that go over the soles of my shoes which help to give my shoes some grip so I dont slip in the snow! No excuses! I admit I went a little crazy with this, but I also bought a lululemon running jacket. Hey, it was on sale! To me, there is nothing like hot, new workout clothes to get me motivated! If Im going to make a fool of myself in public while running, I might as well look good right??

So today, I went out for my first run. I ran for just over 20 minutes. 2 mins walking, 2 mins running and switching back and forth. It went well. I did not run with music as I wanted to focus on my run. There are so many nice houses to look at around where I live, so I did a little sight seeing :) Like I said, my goal is to run every other day and then alternate with dailyhiit workouts. Wish me luck!! :)

Juice Cleanse Day 4

I have finally finished my 4 day juice cleanse!!! It was very difficult at times to only stick to the juices and not give in to food, but I am so glad I did this!! I learned a lot about myself and how I feel towards food and how I much I think about food, all while cleansing my body of chemicals and toxins. I also lost about 5 lbs which was a bonus as well! During this cleanse I have thought a lot about how I am going to proceed with my diet and lifestyle, and I have decided that starting now, I am going to cut dairy from my diet. Im not going to go in to all the details, but I have done a lot of research recently on dairy and have discovered that like meat, it is full of chemicals and hormones. This is going to be difficult for me as I love cheese and yogurt, but I have seen various alternatives and am going to go for it!! I know the same types of chemicals and hormones are also in meat, however I dont think I am ready to let that go yet. Having said this, I am going to look in to buying locally farmed hormone free meat. Now getting back to the juice cleanse, I have really enjoyed the experience and would definitely do it again. It might be something I consider doing once or twice a year. 

How was I feeling this morning when I woke up? I was not hungry at all this morning when I woke up and I actually had a bit of a difficult time drinking the first juice of the day. Not sure why this was, but when I did drink it, I felt fine and was able to drink the others throughout the day. I also woke up with a but of a surprise - 2 lovely blemishes on my chin! lol. I guess this is one way my body is getting rid of the toxins and shouldnt complain as this is what I wanted it to do! 

How was I feeling throughout the day? I was at work for a lot of the day and so since I was busy I did not notice whether or not I was hungry! I guess this was a good things as I was not thinking about food!! I had lots of energy throughout the day which was nice like the other days, was also still peeing a lot. After work I had to go and get groceries for the week..... that was a little difficult. They say you should never get groceries when you are hungry, but I actually did quite well and did not buy anything I normally wouldnt buy and stayed away from junk food! yay! Here is my favourite juice from today: 

Orange, grapefruit, lemon: This was so yummy!! I love citrusy fruits, and this juice was so refreshing! 

This juice was not one of my favourites: 

Cucumber, lemon, carrot, beets, fennel: This was similar to the one I had yesterday that was also not my favourite lol. I really did not like this juice!!! It just tasted so..... weird..... and beety lol I like the juices that have a little more fruit I guess? Darn that sweet tooth!! 

How am I feeling after the juice cleanse? Great!! I am so glad that I did this!! I feel so healthy and clean, and refreshed! I would definitely recommend doing a juice cleanse, and I also definitely recommend doing it through the Raw Juice Guru. Eliane (the guru) was so great at answering any questions I had throughout the cleanse and got back to me very quickly even if I emailed her late in the evening! Juice Cleanse Day 3

Day 3 is done!! Overall it went about the same as yesterday however my hunger fluctuated a little more, so I was not constantly hungry but just hungry at certain times. I noticed today that the juices were not as fruity which is sad because I love the fruity ones!! I guess the RJG is trying to squeeze more veggies in me as I approach the end!!

How was I feeling this morning when I woke up? I felt great! Like the other days, I woke up feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. I was hungry this morning like I always am when I wake up but after having my first juice I seemed to be fine. I also noticed that my skin was clear looking and also glowy. I liked that :)

How was I feeling throughout the day? Like I just mentioned, my hunger was on and off today. Maybe its because I increased my water intake throughout the day so it helped me to stay full? Or maybe I am just getting used to this. I was peeing A LOT. Was a little awkward to be going so much at work, but it is what it is!! I noticed today how food is everywhere. At work co-workers were asking me if I wanted anything from Timmies, my husband ordered a pizza for dinner (which I wasnt even tempted with which is interesting), and people are always talking about food in general. It seems like food kind of takes over our lives.... just something I noticed. Here is my favourite juice of the day:

Pomegranate, cucumber, apple: So yummy!! I didnt really taste the pomegranate too much even though the juice was red, but the apple and cucumber flavour was yummy!

Here is a juice that I did not like today:

Carrot, celery, cucumber, kale, beet, lemon: This tasted like dirt. Must have been the roots. It was very beety and just kind of yucky. But I drank it (twice today actually) and I survived.

How am I feeling after day 3? I feel great. My skin is still glowing and I have lots of energy even after  being on my feet all day. I have not been as hungry and I am not as tempted by food around me like I was the first 2 days. I am looking forward to my last day though and being able to eat food on Monday :)

Oh, something I forgot to mention on my last post. My body was very sore from a workout that I had gone on Family Day. After day 1, my muscles were totally fine. I think I had read somewhere that ginger is good for sore muscles and lots of my juices on day 1 had ginger so maybe thats why? :)

Juice Cleanse Day 2

So I am finished day 2 of my juice cleanse through the Raw Juice Guru. The juices today were similar to the ones from yesterday with some differences though. One big difference that I have noticed between yesterday and today is that the juices were not as sour! Most of them today did not have lemon, however even the ones that did were not as sour to me. Strange.

How was I feeling this morning when I woke up? Hungry lol I have been so so hungry since starting this. It is so hard to not just get up and go to the fridge and make something to eat! But I am getting through it and am really happy about it! I was not tired when I woke up, I felt energized and had a clear mind. Overall, feeling really good!

How was I feeling throughout the day? Again, I have had lots of energy and my mind has been very clear. Like yesterday, I was peeing a lot, however, I managed to get through a very important meeting this afternoon without having to leave to pee! Success!! Of course I am hungry and am wishing I could have something with substance to eat, but I keep reminding myself why I am doing this and how good it is for me, and so I keep going without giving in to food. I still have 2 days of juices left and with it being the weekend I know I am going to struggle. Usually on weekends my husband and I like to go out for dinner and meet some friends at the pub for a drink, but not this weekend (well not me anyways). I dont normally drink that often but I do enjoy going out with friends and hanging out on a saturday night. I think though that this weekend I am going to stay in as I dont want to be tempted by food and drinks! I can do this!! Here are my favourite 2 juices from today:

Carrot, apple, cranberry, kale - This juice was delicious!!! I think I mentioned this in my last post but my mom used to always make fresh carrot, apple, beet juice so this was very similar, and I just love the taste! Very fresh!

Grapefruit, ginger - This basically just tasted like fresh grapefruit juice with just a hint of ginger, but it was so good! Grapefruits are one of my favourite fruits, so I really enjoyed this juice!

How am I feeling after day 2? I feel great! My energy has been consistent all day which is nice and I am starting to enjoy the juices a little more than I did yesterday! It is also nice that I have still not been experiencing any negative side effects. However there is a bit of white film on my tongue, but other than that, so far so good. But.... I am still SO SO SO HUNGRY!! All I want to do is eat. And Im not craving sugar or anything crappy, im just craving food. Even a salad would be pretty amazing right now. This is when I just keep reminding myself why I am doing this and how great this is for my body. I can do this. I am half done. And on monday, I can enjoy a salad.... or maybe something else..... ha ha

Juice Cleanse Day 1

So today is the first day of my 4 day juice feast through the Raw Juice Guru. For 2 days leading up to this cleanse I have eaten only fruits and veggies (mostly anyways) and I have been pretty hungry so this is going to be interesting. Each day I will have 6 juices (500ml) and 2 elixirs (in a tiny shot like bottle) every 90mins to 2 hours, and I can also have detox tea and water whenever I want to (im pretty sure its a rooibos tea). So far juice 1 and 2 are the same as juice 7 and 8. Each day I am going to do a quick post about how I am feeling that day and what I have noticed about myself throughout the cleanse. Whats great about the Raw Juice Guru is that they cater each cleanse specifically to each person. This means that no person drinks the same juices! How cool is that? This is one of the reasons I decided to get my cleanse through this company :)  Having said this, today I am going to post each type of juice I had so that you can get an idea of what the juices are like, however over the next days I will stick to posting about how I am progressing and feeling throughout the cleanse :)

Here are the juices that I had for today and what I thought about them.

Juice 1: apple, cucumber, spinach, lemon, ginger - Hated it after the first initial taste but then it started to grow on me. Its very sour from the lemon and I think the cucumber taste is the most obvious but I can definitely taste the other ingredients as well. I wouldnt say that I love it, but it is definitely drinkable. It has a familiar taste.... kind of like when I eat fresh locally grown cucumber with vinegar, salt and pepper in the summer time!  

Juice 2: apple, lemon, celery, beet, kale, ginger - this juice has a similar taste to the first one. Very beety though. It reminds me of the carrot, apple, beet juice my mom would make for me as a kid. Taste was ok, again, the more I drank it the more I liked it.

Juice 3 (elixir): chlorophyll - This one was pretty gross. I downed it pretty quickly ha ha Im not sure how to describe the taste. It tasted..... green? Not vegetable green, green in some other way. It was strange.

Juice 4: dandelion, carrot, cucumber, lemon, fennel - This juice is very strange! I think that comes from the dandelion. I cant say that I like it. My least favourite so far. It just tastes...... odd. I dont know how else to describe it. Sorry!

Juice 5: watermelon, lemon - This juice was tasty, but super sour!! So much lemon!!!

Juice 6 (elixir): milk thistle, apple - Delish! Tasted like apple juice!

Juice 7: apple, lemon, celery, beet, kale, ginger - Same as juice 2. I enjoyed it more the 2nd time than the first. It was quite tasty actually, but also very sour! Whats with all the lemon?? ha ha

Juice 8: apple, cucumber, spinach, lemon, ginger - Same as juice 1. Again, like most of the juices, very sour!! Still got that cucumber and vinegar taste to it.

So that was day 1. I have noticed a theme in the juices today - LEMON!! every juice was so sour!!!! Overall though, they were pretty tasty :) (not as tasty as food would be right now!)

How was I feeling this morning before starting the juices? Hungry, anxious, and sore. On monday I went with my hubby to a workout at his personal training gym where he goes a few times a week (on family day he could bring a family member for free). Even though I am used to working out, they had me doing things I have not really done before like pull ups and chin ups, as well as deadlifts with kettle bells. I have been very sore in my arms ever since monday and have struggled to do anything (even getting dressed hurts so much! ha ha) I have decided through this cleanse that it might not be the best choice to continue with my dailyhiit workouts as through this cleanse I am not eating anything at all. So, I am going to work in some light physical activity for the 4 days such as taking my puppy for a nice walk.

How was I feeling throughout the day? Hungry. Very hungry. I didnt find that I was craving certain foods, but I thought about food a lot and definitely missed it! Even though I have been drinking lots of juice today I did not feel full. Usually when I drink a lot it fills me up, but for some reason, not this time! Also, I have been peeing a lot!! This didnt start until mid afternoon, but I have made many trips to the bathroom today! This is making me worried about a meeting I am sitting in on tomorrow afternoon for a new job I am starting in April. It will be my first time meeting some of the staff and so leaving to pee throughout the meeting worries me.....   

How am I feeling after day 1? - Other than hungry....... energized! I have not felt tired at all today and am still feeling very energized. I feel great actually! I havent noticed many health changes as of yet, but feeling good is important to note :) No side effects like headaches yet either :) Excited to see what day 2 brings!
